Adorning the account of Christ's incarnation is the story of a man who sang over Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah: Simeon. You've probably heard of Simeon's song but notice how Luke describes the man.
Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. Luke 2:25
Luke describes him as "righteous and devout." We don't know if he had a family. We don't know how much money he had. We don't know what he looked like. We don't know what was in his retirement account. We don't know what he did for a living. But we know who the man was.
The same is true for us. We are defined by who we are before God, no other way.
