Easter Week: Monday

Monday: The Day After

Jesus caused quite a stir the previous day when he entered Jerusalem like a conquering king, complete with the shouting crowds. Sunday night, he traveled to the neighboring village of Bethany. Monday morning, on the one and a half mile trip into Jerusalem Jesus saw a fig tree that was green and looked like it had fruit on it from a distance. Upon closer inspection, the fig tree had no fruit to give. Jesus cursed  the tree. Fresh off the fig tree cursing Jesus hiked down Mt. Olivet straight to the temple. Upon arrival, Jesus proceeded to cleanse the temple, kicking out all the merchants and moneychangers. He did this because both were doing a dishonest trade and because they were occupying space that was dedicated to Gentile worshipers. After his spiritual spring-cleaning, Jesus left Jerusalem and went back to Bethany.
