Let's Read - Ladies Book Night
Tuesday, August 21, 2018, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Got summer reading plans? Flourish is hosting a Book Night! Choose one of four books to read over the summer and on Tuesday evening, August 21st, we’ll meet to discuss them!
Here are the selections for the August discussion --
- A Praying Life: Connecting With God in a Distracting World by Paul Miller.
A Praying Life is highly recommended and applicable to everyone who wants to grow in intimacy with God. The book describes itself this way: “Many people struggle to learn how to pray because they are focusing on praying, not on God… Conversation is only the vehicle through which we experience one another. Consequently, payer is not the center of this book. Getting to know a person, God, is the center.” The book is full of personal examples from the author’s life as well as practical suggestions from how to utilize prayer cards or a prayer app.
- Fierce Women: The Power of a Soft Warrior by Kimberley Wagner.
(This book is recommended for everyone, but please note that the primary application deals with marriage.) You may not see yourself as beautifully fierce or even slightly strong, but what if God has placed a powerful fierceness within you, within every woman? Kim admits her fierceness became a source of conflict in her marriage, but the relationship dynamic totally changed when she discovered her fierce strengths could be used to encourage and inspire her husband. She invites you to come alongside as she takes an honest look at a destructive relationship dynamic and casts a vision for the transformation God can bring to troubled marriages."
- Spiritual Depression by Martin Lloyd Jones
Don’t be misled by the title: this book is not only for people suffering from depression. A collection of 21 sermons by one of the foremost preachers of the 20th century, this book “lays bare the causes that have robbed many Christians of spiritual vitality but also points the way to the cure that is found through the mind and spirit of Christ.”
- Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Really Change Your Family by Paul David Tripp
Don’t be misled by the cover: this book is helpful for parents of older children as well! “In this life-giving book, Paul Tripp offers parents much more than a to-do list. Instead, he presents us with a big-picture view of God's plan for us as parents... Freed from the burden of trying to manufacture life-change in our children's hearts, we can embrace a grand perspective of parenting overflowing with vision, purpose, and joy.”
Pick the one that appeals to you most, read it, and join us on August 21st at 7pm for a time of discussion with other ladies who read your same selection!
